We all know the damage liquid can cause to our phones. Unfortunately, many people don’t know what to do if their phone actually gets wet. Acting quickly helps reduce the amount of damage and eliminates the need for expensive replacement or repairs.
Turn Off Your Phone
If your phone gets wet, whether partially or completely, the first thing you should do is turn it off! Even if your phone is still functional, switch it off immediately and remove the battery.
It takes time for water to cause damage to your phone. You need to get the water out before this happens.
Wipe Your Phone Down
Once the battery is removed, take out any other types of cards or chips including the SIM card and dry them off. Wipe up any water using tissues or paper towels and shake off any leftover water as best you can.
Don’t use a blow-dryer as the heat can cause damage to the exposed components of your phone.
Let it Dry
Once you’ve done your best to get the water out of your phone, leave it out to dry for a few hours to a few days. The amount of time required depends on how wet it got. For example, if it was fully submerged in water and it took you a long time to find it, you’ll need to leave it for a few days. Even then, there’s no guarantee it will work.
Turn it On
After you’re sure your phone is completely dry, replace the battery and SIM card and try turning it back on. If it doesn’t turn on immediately, plug in the charger and let it charge for a bit.
Although there’s no guarantee these steps will work, you increase your chance of success the sooner you act.
Do Not Put Your Phone in Rice!
A lot of people think they should put their phone in rice if it becomes wet. While this method may work for some, you’ll get better results from leaving your phone in the open air.
