Dust and dirt not only make your device look bad, they can also affect how well it performs. It’s important to make sure your laptop or desktop computer is kept clean.
General Cleaning
Cleaning your device will typically consist of cleaning the inside and cleaning the outside. While it’s never a good idea to take your machine apart piece by piece, you do still need to remove the dust that collects inside.
Cleaning the Inside of Your Computer
Compressed air is the best way to clean the inside of your machine. Hold a compressed air can a few inches away from the computer and point it at the air vents. Start slowly and gradually increase intensity until you no longer see dust coming out of the vents. Do not attempt to open your computer. Contact a professional computer repair service if you feel your system requires additional cleaning.
Cleaning the Outside of Your Computer
Regardless of how careful you are, the outside of your computer will eventually collect dirt and dust. This is especially true if you have a touchscreen computer.
Using a high quality glass cleaner or a 50/50 mixture of water and rubbing alcohol, spray the cleaner on a cotton cloth or towel. Do not spray the monitor directly. Make sure the cloth is slightly damp and not too wet. Gently wipe the screen with the cloth. Remove any stubborn spots with a gentle scrubbing motion.
Clean your keyboard using compressed air. You’ll probably be amazed at how much dust comes flying out with just one spray. Do not try to remove the keys to clean beneath them. Gently wipe the keyboard using the same damp cloth you used on your monitor.
